Igniting the Spirit of Citizenship: UNESA’s PPKn Program Holds 13th National Competition
The Department of Civic Education (PPKn) at Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) successfully hosted the preliminary round of the 2025 PPKn Competition online, carrying the inspiring theme: “Educating the Nation’s Children to Realize a BERMUTU Generation: Virtuous, Independent, Resilient, Tenacious, and Excellent for Indonesia.”
Now in its 13th year, the national-level competition has become a magnet for high school students from across the archipelago. This year, 71 teams joined the event, representing diverse regions: North Sumatra (5 teams), East Kalimantan (1), Jakarta (2), Banten (1), West Java (3), Central Java (2), East Java (54), Bali (2), and West Nusa Tenggara (1). The overwhelming participation—particularly from East Java—reflects the growing enthusiasm for transformative civic education.
The event opened with spirited remarks from Committee Chair Rianda Usmi, S.Pd., M.Pd., who emphasized that the competition is more than just a contest. “This 13th PPKn Competition is a manifestation of our commitment to educating the nation and shaping a quality generation—virtuous, independent, resilient, tenacious, and excellent,” she said.
Dr. Listyaningsih, S.Pd., M.Pd., Coordinator of the Civic Education Program, further highlighted the importance of the event as a living practice of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. “We hope this competition becomes a space where young people learn to think critically, creatively, and communicatively, while practicing sportsmanship,” she noted.
Prof. Dr. Wiwik Sri Utami, M.P., Dean of UNESA’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, delivered an inspiring message to the participants: “Make this competition a platform to learn together, collaborate, and sharpen your potential. Show that even as high school students, you are capable of being resilient, innovative, and ready to contribute to the nation’s progress.”
The event was supported by UNESA’s Center for Information Technology Development, ensuring smooth technical execution in the virtual space. Despite being held online, students across provinces joined with focus, enthusiasm, and a strong spirit of sportsmanship. The competition unfolded dynamically, embodying the values of Pancasila, the Constitution, and the spirit of unity.
Ultimately, the PPKn 2025 Competition was not only about victory but also about courage—courage to think, to act, and to contribute toward a brighter future for Indonesia. From screen to screen, province to province, the flame of BERMUTU has been lit, signaling the determination of the nation’s youth to build an Indonesia that is more virtuous, resilient, and excellent.
